Migraine headaches are congestive headache. They begin with
extreme vasoconstriction
in the affected hemispheres and the excess pressure will press against
the
meninges causing excruc iating pain. In classic migraines the pain will
be
preceded by blurred vision, the perception of flashing lights followed
by
extreme throbbing pain on one side of the head. Migraines will often be
accompanied by hypersensitivity to light, nausea, vomiting and may
persist
from several hours to several days.Once a migraine has begun, little can be done except to wait for it to
pass. Most treatment protocols focus on prevention. For those who suffer
frequent, debilitating migraines, some medical options now are
available to
take on a prphylactic basis. Taken daily, these medicines will prevent
the
initial onset of a headache.
Alternate treatments involve a cool cloth to the head to reduce blood
flow
in conjunction with a warm foot bath for a derivative hydrotherapeutic
effect. A warm dark room and lots of quiet is also recommended. Massage
therapy as part of a maintenance routine is advised.
